Before the Cremation
The mourners will normally gather at the Crematorium close to the entrance to the chapel a few minutes before the appointed time of the funeral service. The service normally takes 30 minutes unless extra time has been booked in advance. When the principal mourners are ready to proceed, the coffin is usually brought into the chapel by bearers from the Funeral Director or the family. While it is being placed on the catafalque the mourners take their seats and the service proceeds. At the moment during the service when the commital takes place, the coffin will be obscured from view by the closing of the curtains and the coffin will pass through the catafalque door into the committal room adjacent to the chapel. The mourners will then proceed to the flower terrace to view the floral tributes before leaving the Crematorium. There is an option of leaving the coffin on view until all the mourners have left the chapel, and this should be agreed with the funeral director and minister.
Both crematorium chapels seat approximately 80 people, with standing space for the same amount. Both chapels are bookable for thirty minute intervals. The East chapel service times are bookable on the hour and half hour between 09:30 hrs until 16:00 hrs, daily Monday - Thursday.
On Friday's the last service time is 3.30pm
The West chapel service times are bookable on the quarter past and quarter two between 09:45 hrs until 15:45 hrs, daily Monday - Thursday.
On Friday's however, the last service time is 3.15pm.
